Concept definition: A protected <REGION> surrounding certain military <AERODROME>s that normally extends for a 9,26 kilometre (5 nautical mile) <<RADIUS>> around the <AERODROME> and upwards from the <SURFACE> to 914,4 metres (3 000 feet) above the level of the <AERODROME>; military control zone. A 'stub' projection protects the final approach path to the main <RUNWAY> outwards from the <BOUNDARY> of the MATZ, enclosing a <REGION> 1,852 kilometre (two nautical mile) either side of the extended centre-line of the <RUNWAY> and upwards from 304,8 metres (1 000 feet) above the <SURFACE> to 914,4 metres (3 000 feet) above the <<ELEVATION>> of the <AERODROME>. Although recognition of a MATZ is not mandatory for civil <AIRCRAFT>, all MATZ <AERODROME>s offer a penetration service to civil traffic during operational hours.
