Concept definition: A stability index used to determine the occurrence of severe weather; lifted atmosphere stability index. The lifted atmosphere stability index, LI, is defined by LI = T5 - LTS(degrees Celsius), where T5 is the dry-bulb <<AIR_TEMPERATURE>> at 500 hectopascals and LTS is the <<AIR_TEMPERATURE>> of a parcel of <AIR> at the <PLANETARY_SURFACE> lifted adiabatically to 500 hectopascals.
